Jude Law in Skeleton Crew and Other Stars from a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Line of Events
Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that sends them lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s young siblings is the same one that Chewbacca’s family sees in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (1978).
Seen in AniMat’s wacky cartoon: Silly Old Deadly Bear (2022)
Like most ’80s kids, I have fond memories of The Goonies, but I’d be lying if I said I was dying to see new Star Wars content along those lines. I mean, after the sequel trilogy and so many other disappointments – I’d rate all of the live-action Disney movies except Andor, Rogue One, and the first two seasons of Mando as mediocre or bad – I just crave good, mature, epic Star Wars content.
to be honest, I have to say that “Skeleton Crew” is okay
Give me a show like Andor, set in the Old Republic, with Jedi, Sith, and Nick Gillard as a stunt coordinator for lightsaber battles. BUT…
They’re basically Star Wars Goonies , a nice little story about a couple of kids who go on an adventure in the Star Wars universe
It’s not offensive or poorly made, not blatantly cheap like Boba Fett’s book, not aimless like Mando Season 3, not faith-defying like the sequels and Kenobi, not as insensitive as Acolyte. Hooray?
So far so good75/10
The script is decent so far (from episode 2): the effects, costumes, and locations look good: there’s a certain charm to the whole thing, I suspect that like Andor this is a passion project for its creators and is considered a minor side project by higher-ups who therefore didn’t bother to get involved, which is a blessing for Lucasfilm these days.
