This will mark the third attempt at a television series based on the world of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Line of Events
After a madcap incident at their elite college, half-siblings Caroline and Lucien attempt to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), starring Amy Adams as Sarah Michelle Gellar, was originally a scripted TV series before being remade into a feature film. Gellar later reprised her role as Kathryn in 2016 for the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series.

Next up is Cruel Intentions (1999). What were they on?! Lucien looks like a twelve-year-old Muppet who was found in a thrift store.
He’s actually intolerable
No 20-year-old would find him attractive or irresistible. The girl who plays the Vice President’s daughter is not very convincing. Terrible acting.
Maybe then they would have appealed to a younger audience, not comparing it to the movie
Terrible writing. Terrible casting. I don’t think they should have called it “Cruel Intentions”; or used the names of the characters in the movie.
